A YEAR END REVIEW OF MY 1ST YEAR IN COLLEGE

by - April 01, 2016

Being a theater student is really not an easy job. Since I started studying Theater Arts at the University of Makati, my life became really crazy. I experienced lots of challenges and problems throughout the year. Honestly, most of the time, I was stressed and frustrated, not really because of the hectic schedule and workload but because of something else. Anyway, this post is not intended for all my complaints but instead, I will focus on all my makeup experiences for all the shows we had and other activities and will mention also brands that I used.

Disclaimer: I'm not a pro and just started learning how makeup works.

P O M P E I I

Let's begin with our first show last October, Pompeii. It was based on the film with the same title and the story of once a very beautiful city in the Roman Empire. I played the right hand of the corrupt Roman Governor who likes the daughter of the head of the city. So we were the villains basically well probably next to the Goddess of Fire we added to the story.

Just a little quick overview of how I felt throughout the process for this show. At first, to be honest, because I was grouped with people that I am not used to working within this semester. Also, when the themes for our shows was changed from, tragic, comedy and drama, to be based on Theater history. I actually had a plan already in case tragic will be ours. The three eras in the Theater history are, Roman (our era); Greek and; Modern; and it would be easier for us, of course, if we had Modern.

My look

I got the role of the right hand of the Governor, so technically, I'm a Roman here. We have to look neater compared to other characters as a representation that we belong to the elite group. Theater make-up is really different from ordinary everyday make-up. It has to be intense, everything intense and that was my first time to do such thing to my face. It was really difficult and I know that what I did wasn't that good at all.

I did first was to put some PONDS' BB Cream, since I don't have any concealer using my blusher brush. Then eyeliner to highlight my eyes and make it stronger, then mascara from The Body Shop. I also used a browner or darker shade to contour my face, highlighting my features such as my jawline, my nose and cheeks, and cliff-chin. Then my Maybelline Baby Lips mixed berry for me not to look so pale. I didn't use any lipstick coz I think it would be too much.

One of our project for the second semester was to transform ourselves into a girl and into an animal using make-up only, without any prosthetic. It wasn't really difficult though, but deciding on which animal I can be was a bit stressful. I did a cat make-up already last Halloween so I wanted to try something else. So I did some research and I saw a peacock look, but it was complicated and I don't think I can do it. Good thing my classmate made me watch a video and there I saw how snake makeup is being done. It's pretty simple.
My Look
(female)

I first did the female look since it doesn't require many details compare to the animal look but it also requires much makeup. I was actually imagining and trying to recreate somehow to how Selena Gomez's usually do her make up which focuses on her eyes.

For this look, I used my PONDS' BB Cream and Maybelline foundation cake as my base. Then I worked with my eyebrows next with my Ever Bilena eyebrow pencil then I went down to my eye makeup. I used my liquid eyeliner only to highlight the shape of my eyes. I also used my Etude House eyeliner pencil to add more intensity. And for my lips, I wanted red lips actually because that's the trend. And for the finishing touches, I used to my sister's bronzer as my highlighter. As much as I want to do more like contouring and stuff, I can't coz I don't know how to do it properly and I thought that if I try, it might just ruin my look. I dressed up as a girl to make my photo look more realistic. I used my sister's dress and my friend Dawn's red wig. But when I was taking photos, it didn't turn so good as I was expecting with the wig. So tried taking pictures without the wig which I posted on facebook and my classmates said like it looks like kinda old Hollywood in a way. I appreciate the good comments but I know it's not really good and I look like someone who came from a horror film.

My 2nd Look
(snake)

I was actually sleepy and tired when I did this so I was in a hurry and wasn't thinking that much. All I wanted was to finish it so fast so it lacks some creativity. So I didn't remove my foundation from my first look but removed the eye makeup.

I don't have much make-up because it's too expensive and we had a lot of things to prioritized. So I just borrowed a MAC makeup set from a good friend. I covered my face with the hair-mask and started painting my face with the green color. This time I used red lipstick for my lips.

I actually had a hard time taking selfies for these two looks. I was technically sleepy during that time so I was really rushing it. I need to take a photo because I need that for me to have something to pass for my project.

Technically my daily look is just simple. Whenever I feel so sleepy and tired (which is almost every day), I put some foundation to hide the haggardness and lip gloss to put like? I guess. But when I'm not I only put concealer and mascara. But there are times that I really don't wear make-up, to rest my face as well. Also, I use a brush in applying foundation and not a sponge. It's easier and more hygienic.

And there you have it. It's a make-up transformation post/year-end review. It was really a roller coaster but I did great things. I'm so excited what more can I do.

with my friends (all of 'em even that guy using cellphone and the girl wearing the violet shirt at the back)

ps. I don't usually take solo selfies. So no photo for a daily look. Sorry, o_-
