UPCAT EXPERIENCE AND SOME TIPS
This test for me was as scary as hell. I'm not trying to scare you all because I got scared because I know I wasn't prepared enough or like, I didn't prepare at all for it. I actually don't really wanna take the test in the first place but I think the biggest tip that my sister gave to me that I can pass down to whoever, will read this is that, if you take UPCAT first other entrance exams will be so easy for you. And I think she's right. (2019 edit: yeah she's effing right)
On my time (wow tanda na), back in 2014, our exam covered, English, Filipino, Science, and Math. I think the exam is still like that. Anyway, so when I took the exam I had a hard time mostly on Science because the exam was almost all about Biology and honestly, I can't remember anything from my 2nd year in high school (oh another indication how old I am). Probably the only thing I remember is the Punnet Square with it's Xs and Ys. That's it! And it sucks!
The other parts weren't easy as well. I graduated in a public school and at that time there were lessons that we haven't discussed yet in class that came out on the exam and that was sad. There were some Calculus, advance algebra and other complicated stuff. For the languages, English, and Filipinos the key is to not read the whole narrative first. Read the questions and the choices first then start reading or maybe scanning the narrative given. Time is ticking honey. I actually didn't finish the Filipino part and almost also the English part because of those long-ass narratives.
Yes, I didn't pass the exam. My average was only 2.698 to be exact. Although some of my friends from UP said that it can be worked out but, nah. Well, don't get me wrong with this one. I don't want to study there because I don't want so much pressure in college and basta, I just don't. But after taking the exam I kinda felt some guilt like what if I reviewed for it? Maybe I could get a higher result? Probably! But so much with the what-ifs.
Just remember that in everything you do, you do your best. Also, take every chance that comes in your life. In short, mag-aral, and mag exam ng UPCAT sis kahit di ka magaaral sa UP.
xoxo
ps. there's no break time in taking the exam so better bring some foods with you, you can eat inside the testing room bb
